  1. Per Pat O'Herren: Until I hear more, we should remain quiet but keep this bill on our high watch list.

    Senators,
Missoula County opposes SB 313 - Allow variance for stream restoration projects in flood plain, being heard on the Senate floor this afternoon. Passage of SB 313 could result in the suspension of federal programs supporting flood insurance and federal disaster assistance for landowners in Missoula County, and other counties across the state. This suspension would result in exceptionally high costs to our residents. The Department of Homeland Security and FEMA also oppose SB 313.

    Please oppose SB 313.

    Respectfully,

Vickie Zeier on behalf of the Missoula County Commission

  3. Email from Pat O'Herren:
Missoula County is supportive of stream restoration as defined in SB 313. New rules adopted by DNRC to address the bill, if developed in consultation with FEMA, may help avoid the loss of funding from the National Flood Insurance Program. As of today, FEMA indicated that Section 1-4 of the bill is essential to maintaining the insurance program. Assuming a positive outcome in the rule making, Missoula County can now support the bill.
