  1. Per Erika Barnett:
It is my opinion that the County should oppose SB 154, as it directly aims to discourage the use of net metering systems through eliminating incentives, such as tax exemptions and credits. As you know, tax incentives are vital to encouraging the practicality of utilizing solar as a viable/comparable energy source to conventional energy generation. Montana should be looking to support renewable energy, and net metering systems are an important way for residents to utilize solar energy. Supporting this bill would be opposing renewable energy.

This bill also seeks to prohibit the use of the energy development and demonstration grant program for net metering systems, which directly goes against the whole purpose of the program: to fund technology development and demonstration by "developing storage systems specifically designed to store energy generated from eligible renewable resources," and "advancing the development of alternative energy systems" (90-4-1005).

This bill makes it more difficult for residents and businesses to utilize renewable energy. By opposing this bill, Missoula County could show how dedicated they are to the future of renewable energy production.
