Missoula County supports HB 314 – Increase number of district court judges, before House Judiciary Monday morning, and thanks Representative McConnell for sponsoring this legislation. HB 314 would provide for a fifth judge within our district. Missoula County has not gained an additional judge since 1981. Since that time, our population has continued to increase and our community faces more and more complex litigious issues. Missoula County completed an extensive remodel of the Courthouse, anticipating an additional judge and staff. The renovation programmed for an additional chamber and offices for support staff, a judicial assistant, court reporter and law clerk. Missoula County now has four jury courtrooms and has the capacity to accommodate an additional judge.
The Montana Association of Clerks of District Court have no problem with this bill relative to the duties of the Clerk.
