Revise marriage license laws to allow nonresidents to get licenses in any county

5 comments:

  1. This bill was submitted at the request of the Montana Association of Clerks of District Court. It simply seeks to clarify that non-residents may obtain a marriage license in any county in Montana (the same as residents). This is a good bill and really benefits our Montana kids who have left Monana and are returning to get married. Montana has many wonderful venues for weddings and it is not uncommon for a venue to lie within the boundaries of a neighboring county. The bride and groom shouldn't have to drive to another county to obtain their license,

    Senators Fielder and Sands,

Missoula County supports SB 123 - Revise marriage license laws to allow nonresidents to get licenses in any county, being heard in Senate Judiciary tomorrow morning. This bill was submitted at the request of the Montana Association of Clerks of District Court to clarify that non-residents may obtain a marriage license in any county in Montana. This is the current law for Montana residents. It is not uncommon for a wedding venue to lie within the boundaries of a neighboring county. This law would allow those getting married to obtain their license anywhere in Montana, without having to drive to the county of their ceremony.

    Please support SB 123.
