    Representatives,

Missoula County supports HB 86 - Authorize youth election judges, scheduled on the House floor this afternoon for third reading. Less than two percent of Missoula County’s 750 election judges are between the ages of 18 and 25, while more than 60 percent of judges are 70 and older. Youth election judges provide an opportunity to impress upon our youth a sense of civic duty that will carry through their lifetime. Youth election judges would offer Missoula County an alternative demographic to recruit and train for elections. For the November General Election, more than 175 trained election judges declined work. While our Elections Office does their best to recruit a large number of workers, Missoula County routinely struggles to fill positions. Youth election judges would supplement judge rosters while gaining an understanding of how government and election processes work.

    Please support HB 86.

    Respectfully,
Vickie Zeier on behalf of the Missoula County Commission
