LC2408
Bill Harris

Generally revise sentencing and treatment laws for DUI and drug offenders

  1. Per Jason Marks:
I think the county should generally support this. In particular I am supportive of the first section appropriating money for treatment programs. Methamphetamine and alcohol addictions are probably currently the two biggest causes of recidivism that we see in our office. They are also a driving factor in our high numbers of child abuse and neglect cases. I think Missoula County should support any effort on the state level to fund treatment programs.

  2. Sending the following the end of day today:

    Representatives Hill-Smith, McConnell, and Morigeau,
Missoula County supports HB 654- Generally revise sentencing and treatment laws for DUI and drug offenders, being heard in House Judiciary tomorrow morning. Missoula County and our County Attorney's Office specifically supports prioritizing money for treatment programs. Methamphetamine and alcohol addictions are currently the two largest causes of recidivism the County Attorney's Office sees. These cases are also a driving factor in the ever increasing numbers of child abuse and neglect cases.
    Please support HB 654.

  3. From Lonie Hutchison: HB 654 has not been discussed at DUI Task Force meetings. I can put it on the agenda for next Thursday's DUI Task Force meeting. I don't feel that it would be appropriate for me to weigh in on this bill until then.
