Sending the following to Representative Bennett end of day today for hearing tomorrow morning:
Representative Bennett, Missoula County opposes HB 212 - Ballot Interference Act - restrict collection of absentee ballots, before House State Administration tomorrow morning. The third-party collection of ballots is a useful service to those who have difficulties returning their ballots to local elections offices. This is the voter's choice as to whether or not they are comfortable allowing someone to deliver their ballot on their behalf. This legislation would also require elections administrators to supervise how ballots are returned. This proposed change puts elections administrators in the difficult position of taking responsibility for staff outside of their agency. Missoula County elections strives to provide exceptional customer service, but there are limits to the role elections administrators can play in ensuring that service is delivered successfully.
