  2. MACDC has no concerns with this bill relative to the duties of the clerk of district court. However, if passed, this bill would add a 5th judge to the 4th Judicial District in Missoula/Mineral counties. The addition of a 5th judge could possibly require two additional staff members in the Missoula County Clerk of District Court office.

    Representatives Hill-Smith, McConnell and Morigeau,

Missoula County supports HB 44 - Generally revise laws related to district court judge numbers, before House Judiciary tomorrow morning. HB 44 would provide for a fifth judge within our district. Missoula County has not gained an additional judge since 1981. Since that time, our population has continued to increase and our community faces more and more complex litigious issues. Missoula County completed an extensive remodel of the Courthouse, anticipating an additional judge and staff. The renovation programmed for an additional chamber and offices for support staff, a judicial assistant, court reporter and law clerk. Missoula County now has four jury courtrooms and has the capacity to accommodate an additional judge.

    Please support HB 44.
