Per Matt Jennings: Overall this is something the County should support. Rob’s input is important to see if this procedure is appropriate and workable for the sheriff’s department. I am a little concerned about the 6 month time that the owner of property has to redeem in section 3. The County ends up with vehicles and other large items that we have to secure and having to wait over 6 months is burdensome. I would prefer something like 60 days maybe with an exception/extension if the person is incarcerated. Also, section 1 requires this procedure to apply to any item worth over $20 in value, but we also have to publish before disposition. Publication costs more than $20. Perhaps we can do a publication with multiple items?
